THE CLASS OF EIGHT STUDENTS WILL GO THROUGH FIVE MONTHS OF TRAINING. THE STUDENTS BRING WITH THEM A WIDE VARIETY OF AVIATION EXPERIENCE INCLUDING STATION OPERATIONS AND OTHER AIRLINE DISPATCH EXPERIENCE. THREE OF THE EIGHT CANDIDATES WERE HIRED FROM WITHIN THE COMPANY, AND THREE OF THE EIGHT HAVE SPOUSES WORKING FOR UNITED: ONE IS A PILOT, ONE IS A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AND ONE IS AN AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN. THIS CLASS REPRESENTS THE FIRST CLASS OF FLIGHT DISPATCHERS HIRED IN 1998. FLIGHT DISPATCH PLANS TO BEGIN ANOTHER CLASS OF EIGHT STUDENTS IN EITHER LATE 1998 OR EARLY 1999. PILOT SICK LEAVE CONTINUES DOWNWARD TREND ----------------------------------------- UNITED ACHIEVED AN 8.3 PERCENT IMPROVEMENT IN SICK LEAVE USAGE DURING THE SEVENTH PERIOD OF THE PROGRAM OF RECOGNITION AND INCENTIVES FOR DEPENDABLE EMPLOYEES (PRIDE), WHICH RAN FROM MARCH 1, 1998, THROUGH AUGUST 31, 1998. THE RESULTS WERE COMPARED WITH THE SAME MONTHS OF 1994, THE BASE PERIOD FOR THE PRIDE PROGRAM. THE RESULTS EXCEED THE 5 PERCENT THRESHOLD NECESSARY FOR CONDUCTING A PRIZE DRAWING. U.S. AND INTERNATIONAL EMPLOYEES WHO ACHIEVED PERFECT DEPENDABILITY FOR THIS PERIOD OF PRIDE WILL BE ENTERED IN A DRAWING FOR ONE USD25,000 AND 35 USD5,000 CASH PRIZES.
