FLIGHT OPS FLYER DECEMBER 10, 1999 **************** ***************** Extended delay kits boarded; part of `Our United Commitment' ------------------------------------------------------------ As part of United's voluntary plan to address and improve 12 key areas of service to our customers, an "Extended Delay Kit" has been developed for use during long off-gate delays. The bright orange kit, containing snack bars and Pedialyte infant solution, will be sealed and labeled, and can be used to provide snacks to customers when all other normal food provisions have been depleted. Pursers and the Captain will jointly determine when the kit will be used. The Captain should report use of the kit to station control, for first available replenishment. One kit will be boarded on A319/320, B727, B737, B757 and B767MT/MV aircraft. Two kits will be boarded on B747, DC-10 and B767MD/MZ aircraft. Kits are being boarded on airplanes effective December 8. Two Retirements in Flight Dispatch ---------------------------------- Two long-time Flight Dispatch employees, both of whom came to United in 1961 as part of the merger with Capital Airlines, can look forward to the new year with more time on their hands. Manager-Flight Dispatch Operations John Wrbanek worked in departments such as Customer Service and Reservations before earning his Aircraft Dispatcher certification in 1969. He became a Manager in 1982 and served in that role until his retirement effective December 31, 1999. Senior Staff Specialist-Flight Dispatch Services Ken Taylor came to Dispatch in 1967 as a Staff Assistant and has provided administrative support in areas such as retirement planning, charter operations and the fueling schedule. His retirement is effective January 31, 2000. "John and Ken were two of the finest employees I've been privileged to work with," says Manager-Flight Dispatch Ron Smith. "On behalf of everyone in Dispatch, congratulations to John and Ken. We wish you the best in all your future endeavors." Management Moves ---------------- Manager-Command Skills Development Captain John Frerichs has announced the selection of IADFO Flight Operations Supervisor Chris Campion as the new Manager-Initial Flight Officer and Employee Indoctrination. Chris joined United in April 1996, and has flown the B727 an B767/757. He has an engineering degree from the Naval Academy and served for 10 years in the United States Marine Corps. Captain Frerichs also announced the selection of Denver Flight Manager Captain J.R. Russell as the new Manager- Captain Development Course, effective December 15. Captain Russell joined United in 1979 and has flown the B727, B737- 200, B747 and B777 aircraft. He served as a Standards Captain on the B737 and B777, and as B777 Flight Manager, and has been a Flight Manager at DENFO since January 1999. DENFO Chief Pilot Captain Joe Swenson has selected Brian Klink as the new Flight Operations Supervisor at DENFO, replacing Karl Keller who has moved to the Flight Center. Brian was hired in July 1997 and has flown the B727 and B737-300/500. His new position was effective November 15. ANCFO Chief Pilot Captain Cliff Russell has announced the selection of Captain Steve Voit as the new Flight Manager at ANC. Captain Voit joined United in 1985 and has flown the B727, B737-300, B767/757 and DC-10, and served as an FOI/PI at the Flight Center. His new position was effective December 1. Welcome Aboard -------------- Nineteen new-hire pilots began training at the Flight Center this week, bringing the 1999 total to 780.
