FLIGHT OPS FLYER NOVEMBER 26, 1999 **************** ***************** Captain Development Course Underway ----------------------------------- As of November 18, 280 Flight Officers have attended 10 classes of the `Flying the Line' seminar, the first event in United's new Captain Development Course (CDC) for initial Captains. Two more classes of 32 are scheduled in December and 20 seminars are planned for 2000. This event, which occurs prior to attending initial Captain transition training, is the first of three elements of the CDC. The `Command Seminar,' which occurs in Chicago several months after OE, and `Home Base,' which takes place at domiciles five to eight months after OE, are in final development and will be introduced in February/April 2000. New Flight Managers at HNL and ORD ---------------------------------- HNLFO Chief Pilot Captain Bill Carter has announced the selection of Captain Chuck Arthur as the new Flight Manager in HNL. Captain Arthur joined United in 1984 and has flown the B737-200/300, the B727, A320 and B747-100. He served as an FTI, TCA, Standards Captain and Fleet Captain for the B727 and B747-100 fleets, and has a Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina State University. His new position was effective November 15. ORDFO Chief Pilot Captain Brad Thomann has selected Captain Lester Tom as the new Flight Manager at ORD. Captain Tom was hired in 1988 and has flown the B737-300, A320, B757/67 and DC-10 aircraft. He was an LCA on the B737-300 fleet, and has a degree in Management. His new job is effective December 1. New Manager-Flight Officer Employment Announced ----------------------------------------------- United Operating Group Director-People Services Patti Carson has announced the selection of Roger Vesely as the new Manager-Flight Officer Employment, replacing Nancy Stuke who is on special assignment. Roger joined United in 1988, and has worked in Flight Officer Employment for 10 years. He has a bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Colorado. Roger's new position is effective immediately. Flight Operations Achieves 1999 United We Care Goal --------------------------------------------------- The Flight Operations division once again this year has achieved an ambitious goal, collecting over $1.6 million for the United We Care Employee Giving Program. According to Division Campaign coordinator LAXFO U-30 Captain Cheryl Kelly, as of November 22 Flight Ops employees have contributed $1,627,937, with pledge cards still to be collected through the end of November. "Thank you to all the Flight Ops employees who participated in the program this year," says Captain Kelly. "We can all take pride in the generosity shown by our co-workers. A big thank you also to the local coordinators at the domiciles, the Flight Center and at World Headquarters. Each of you played a key role in meeting our goal." Welcome Aboard -------------- Twenty new-hire pilots began training at the Flight Center this week, bringing the 1999 total to 741.
