FLIGHT OPS FLYER October 30, 1998 **************** **************** Shuttle Summit IV Gets United to the Future First ------------------------------------------------- Nearly 250 United employees who influence the Shuttle operation gathered October 20-21 at Shuttle Summit IV in Los Angeles to exchange information and ideas. The meeting -- titled "Getting to the Future First" -- featured two key speakers: Senior Vice President-Planning Rono Dutta who spoke about Shuttle from the corporate perspective, and retired United employee Frank LaVista who presented his seminar "Solutions for Change." Summit participants had an opportunity to ask Shuttle by United President Amos Kazzaz questions when he and Dutta participated in a Q-and-A session. Attendees also heard about the latest initiatives that will help get Shuttle to the future first. Those initiatives include several ongoing projects from the Alternative Operations Team and the Short-Haul Customer Satisfaction Philosophy Implementation Team. The Shuttle Marketplace -- which took place the night prior to the meeting -- featured United's new "Chariot," a self-contained check-in podium on wheels, now being tested in SFO. It also featured a mock-up of the Shuttle bin extenders, and the efforts of several of the Shuttle stations and WHQ's Pricing and Inventory teams and Customer Relations representatives. Summit leaders charged participants with the task of taking the information back to their stations and workplaces to share with employees who were unable to attend. Management Moves at the Flight Center ------------------------------------- Fleet Operations Manager Captain Neil Kardos has announced two management moves at the Flight Center, effective November 1. Captain Nate Cloak, currently B767/757 Flight Manager, has been selected as the new DC10 Fleet Captain. Captain Cloak replaces Captain Bob O'Brien, who was appointed to the position of B747-400 Fleet Captain in September. Captain O'Brien will now have responsibility for the combined B747-400/B747-100 fleets. B747-100 Standards Captain Cliff Russell has been appointed to the position of B747-100 Flight Manager. Former B747-100 Fleet Captain Chuck Arthur is now the B727 Fleet Captain, as announced in September. 1999 Service in Every Sense Program Ready To Go ----------------------------------------------- After a one year hiatus, the Service in Every Sense program returns for 1999. The popular program provides United's best customers with a way to instantly recognize employees who provide them with outstanding service. Premier, Premier Executive and 1K members of United's Mileage Plus program will receive a supply of Service in Every Sense coupons, which can be given to employees "on-the-spot" to thank them for their service. Employees who receive a coupon can turn it in to their supervisor or manager, and will receive a Service in Every Sense pin, which can be worn on the uniform. All coupons will be entered in quarterly drawings for prizes such as hotel stays in vacation destinations, week-end car rentals, and service charge-waived BP-3 passes. Shortly pilots will be receive a brochure containing more details of the program.
