FLIGHT OPS FLYER OCTOBER 8, 1999 **************** *************** 1999 United We Care Campaign Now in Progress -------------------------------------------- The 1999 United We Care campaign, formerly known as the United Employees Charitable Program (UECP), is in full swing this month, and as always, the Flight Operations division has an ambitious goal: $1,600,000. For the second year, LAXFO U-30 Captain Cheryl Kelly is serving as the Flight Operations Division Coordinator. "United We Care is a terrific way for Flight Ops employees to assist others who are less fortunate, and I invite everyone in our division to participate," says Captain Kelly. National Merit Scholarship Program for Children of Employees ------------------------------------------------------------ The 2001 United Airlines Foundation Scholarship Program for the children of employees gets underway next week with the PSAT test for high school juniors on Tuesday, October 12, or Saturday, October 16, 1999. The United Airlines Foundation has been a participant in the National Merit Scholarship Program since 1965 and the National Achievement Scholarship Program since 1973, and has sponsored 479 Merit and 28 Achievement scholarships for employees' children for a total of $1.87 million. To participate in the program, students must be a junior in high school, register at their school and take the PSAT test. One parent must be an active (regular full or regular part-time) employee with at least one year seniority. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation will notify students in September of their senior year if they are a semi- finalist, and in March of their senior year if they are a finalist. Fall Domicile Meetings Continue ------------------------------- Two more domicile meetings will take place next week, in SFO and HNL, featuring Sr. Vice President-Flight Operations Captain Steve Forte and Director-Crew Resources Richard Lung. In addition, United President Rono Dutta will be at the SFO meeting.
