FLIGHT OPS FLYER OCTOBER 1, 1999 **************** *************** Shuttle Celebrates Five Years of Service ---------------------------------------- Today marks United Shuttle's five-year anniversary. On Oct. 1, 1994, United's first Shuttle flight took off at 6 a.m. from BUR and landed in SFO. At the time, Shuttle served nine destinations. Today, Shuttle will grow to 22 destinations on Oct. 31. United Shuttle pilots are based at four domiciles: DEN, LAX, SFO and SEA. Shuttle locations across the system will mark the five-year anniversary throughout the month with celebrations, contests and commemorative T-shirts and pins. Banners and posters will hang in gate rooms to thank employees, customers and partners for the part they have played in Shuttle's success. Employees can learn more about Shuttle and its five years of success by looking to this month's issues of "Our Times," "Newsreal" and a special Shuttle brochure detailing Shuttle's five-year history. United Surveys Crew Hotels for Year 2000 Readiness -------------------------------------------------- What is United doing to ensure our crew hotels are prepared to usher in the new millennium? As part of its aggressive Year 2000 plan, the company has contacted 227 hotels used by United's pilots, flight attendants and management. United requested Year 2000 readiness information regarding property management (i.e. reservations, check-in/out), security systems and other infrastructure items. The company has received encouraging responses from nearly all of the surveyed hotels. Hotel chains indicate they have implemented major initiatives to address the Y2K challenge. United will continue to work with crew hotels and other critical business partners to ensure safe, uninterrupted services for our employees and customers.
