FLIGHT OPS FLYER September 17, 1999 **************** ****************** New Flight Managers Announced ----------------------------- ORDFO Chief Pilot Captain Brad Thomann recently named three new Flight Managers, effective Sept. 1. Captain Alan Coles joined United in 1986 as a B727 Second Officer. He has also flown the B737, B757/767 and A320 and has served as an LCA. Captain Chuck Crosby was hired in 1978. He has flown the B737, DC-8, B727, DC-10, B747-400 and B767 and has been an LCA. Captain Jack Mumaw joined United in 1990 and has flown the B767 and B737-300. He flew for Eastern Airlines for 18 years prior to joining United. MIAFO Chief Pilot Captain Dave Powell has announced the selection of Captain Steve Jones as the Flight Manager at MIA, replacing Captain Brad Thomann who is now the Chief Pilot at ORD. Captain Jones joined United in 1989 and has flown the B737-200 and 300, B757/767 and DC-10. He most recently served as an ORD Flight Manager and, prior to that, as an ANC Flight Manager. His new MIA responsibilities became effective Sept. 1. Additional Positions Filled at Flight Center -------------------------------------------- Vice President-Flight Standards and Training Captain Bill Rutherford this week announced the appointment of two new positions at the Flight Center. The new Manager-Business Planning is Kirn Braich. Kirn has been with United for three years and most recently worked as Sales Manager-Flight Training Services. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in Economics from Cornell University and a master's degree in Business and Public Policy from the University of Chicago. John Bauserman has accepted the position of senior staff coordinator-Employee Training and Development. John has been with United since 1966. In 1981, he came to the Flight Center, where he has coordinated a number of activities including instructor training and the college intern program. John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master's degree from Michigan State University. He earned his law degree from Northern Illinois University. Manager-Line Operations Position Open ------------------------------------- Flight Operations announced in a Sept. 16 job posting that it is seeking candidates for Manager-Line Operations, WHQFO. The Manager-Line Operations assists and supports the Managing Director-Line Operations and System Chief Pilot in providing leadership and direction to the domiciles, Flight Dispatch, Meteorology and Flight Crew Operations Control to achieve corporate and division management and performance objectives. Additional details about the position are in the job posting. To be competitive, candidates must have United Airlines Captain seniority, 500 hours Captain experience and at least one year of experience functioning in a management capacity with United Airlines. Familiarity with the functions and reporting relationships of the following areas is a plus: System Operations Control, Flight Center, Flight Operations domiciles, and San Francisco Engineering.
