FLIGHT OPS FLYER August 27, 1999 **************** *************** United Pilot Wins General Noel Parrish Award -------------------------------------------- LAXFO B737-300 Captain W. Eric Mosley is the recipient of the 1999 General Noel Parrish Award, presented at the 24th annual Organization of Black Airline Pilots (OBAP) convention, which was held jointly with the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. (TAI) in Las Vegas August 20-26. The award, sponsored by TAI, exemplifies the "Tuskegee Airmen Spirit," forged of integrity, perseverance, moral courage and excellent performance. It honors and perpetuates the memory of General Parrish for his outstanding performance as commander of Tuskegee Army Air Field and his courageous stand against racial barriers in the armed services during World War II. The award was presented to Captain Mosley by General Parrish's widow, Dr. Florence Tucker Parrish-St. John. Management Moves at LAX and SFO ------------------------------- LAXFO Chief Pilot Captain Gary Meermans has announced two management selections. LAXFO Administrative Coordinator Eve Edwards is the new Manager-Administration, replacing Ed Payne who is retiring. Eve joined United in 1967 in Reservations and has worked at LAXFO since 1970 as a Flight Crew Time Reporting Clerk, Flight Operations Services Rep and Admin Coordinator. Since March 1999, she has been on special assignment assisting the Manager-Administration Manager at ORDFO. Eve's new position is effective September 1. Gregg Hokuf is the new Flight Operations Supervisor at LAXFO, replacing Mike Ladaw who is returning to line flying. Gregg joined United in 1994 and became a pilot in 1995. He has flown the B767 and B737-300, and has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. Gregg's new position is effective October 1. SFOFO Chief Pilot Captain Bill Willson has announced the selection of Captain Mark Pyle as the new Flight Manager at SFO effective August 23, replacing Captain Jan Kinda who has returned to line flying. Captain Pyle, who has a degree in Political Science from Southwestern College in Kansas, was hired in 1992. He has flown the B727, B737-300 and B777, and served as a Pilot Instructor for the B777 fleet. Flight Manager Opening at IAD ----------------------------- As announced in an August 20 Job Posting, Flight Operations is seeking qualified candidates for a Flight Manager opening at IAD, to replace Captain Randy DeAngelis who has moved to the Chief Pilot position at SEAFO. Flight Manager candidates must have 500 hours experience as a United Captain; LCA experience is preferred. Pilots interested in this position who meet the qualifications should talk to their Chief Pilot and submit a self- nomination form with a resume to WHQLR-Job Posting by August 30. Welcome Aboard -------------- Twenty new-hire pilots began training at the Flight Center this week, bringing the 1999 new-hire total to 513.
