FLIGHT OPS FLYER August 20, 1999 **************** *************** Operation Running Smoothly after WHQ Fire ----------------------------------------- As a result of the quick response by all departments, just three flights were cancelled the day of the fire in the North building at World Headquarters on August 11. An alternate Operations Control Center (called the "Business Resumption Center") was up and running at Chicago Reservations within an hour, and many domiciles noticed no disruption from normal operations. United's FAA Principal Operations Inspector described our contingency planning as a "model for other airlines," and our ATA counterparts were equally impressed. In addition, all non-operations personnel have been relocated to facilities near World Headquarters. "Our congratulations and thanks go to employees in Flight Dispatch, Flight and Onboard Crew Scheduling, Flight Crew Resources, the Hotel Desk, Meteorology, OPB and others for their magnificent effort to keep the operation running smoothly," said Sr. Vice President-Flight Operations Captain Steve Forte. "Our thanks also to ISD and Facilities, who helped us relocate, and to the departments who have made room for our employees."
