SPECIAL FLIGHT OPS FLYER June 28, 1999 ************************ ************* Flight Ops Announces DENTK, System Chief Pilot Appointments ----------------------------------------------------------- Senior Vice President-Flight Operations Captain Steve Forte today announced the appointment of Captain Bill Rutherford as Vice President-Flight Standards & Training, DENTK, and Captain Rick Maloney as Managing Director-Line Operations and System Chief Pilot, WHQFO, effective July 1. Captain Rutherford has served for the past three years as a flight manager at O'Hare. He joined United in 1969 and has flown the B727, B737, B757, B767 and B747. He currently flies the B727. During his career with United, he spent three and a half years at the Flight Center as a Standards Captain in the B737 and B727 fleets. A Doctor of Medicine, he also served as a member of the ALPA National Aeromedical/Flight Time Duty Committee and Chairman of the IFALPA Medical Study Group. Captain Maloney has been the Chief Pilot at O'Hare since November 1998. Prior to that position, he served as Chief Pilot at Honolulu and flight manager at O'Hare. He spent two and a half years at the Flight Center serving as a Standards Captain/Flight Manager in the B757/B767 fleet and a Training Check Airman in the B727 fleet. Hired in 1979, he has flown the DC-8, B727, B737, B757, B767 and B747. He currently flies the B767 out of ORD. Captain J.D. Whitlatch, who will retire in September after 35 years with United, and former System Chief Pilot Captain Dave Ringwalt will work with Rutherford and Maloney to ensure a smooth transition at the Flight Center and WHQ.
