FLIGHT OPS FLYER June 25, 1999 **************** ************* Onboard Service Rolls Out New Program ------------------------------------- Pilots may find more Onboard Supervisors stopping by the cockpit to introduce themselves due to a new program recently introduced by the Onboard Service Division. The Flight Attendant Professional Development Program is designed to provide dedicated support to new flight attendants throughout the first 18 months of their employment. This initiative, which does not change the six month probation period, provides more opportunities for in- depth interaction and in-flight observation, due to lower ratios of flight attendants to supervisors and a longer apprenticeship period. There are currently 43 supervisors managing the more than 3,000 flight attendants with less than 18 months of seniority. Onboard Supervisors will fly with each new flight attendant at least four times during their first 18 months of employment. The supervisors will be observing service delivery, customer interaction skills and flight attendant image. Their goal is to reinforce positive behaviors and to build confidence and competence in new flight attendants. When traveling in flight, supervisors will introduce themselves to the cockpit crew before departure and identify where they will be seated during the flight. The observing supervisor will normally traveling on a business ticket.
