FLIGHT OPS FLYER April 9, 1999 **************** ************* Supplemental Bottled Water for Cockpit Crews -------------------------------------------- The company and ALPA have agreed to the following bottled water provisions for all international and transcontinental flights, plus flights into Central America, Mexico, the Hawaiian Islands and Puerto Rico. There will be no supplemental water on Canadian flights. The company will supply at least the following amount of water per flight: * Flights scheduled for 8 hours or less: 1 liter of water per working crewmember. * Flights scheduled over 8 hours: 2 liters of water per working crewmember. In addition, the company will supply pilots with bottled drinking water at certain international layover hotels. The bottled water will meet the U.S. Health Department standards for purity. * In Central and south America (including Mexico City and Puerto Rico), bottled water will be supplied at all layover destinations. * In the Pacific Rim, bottled water will be supplied at all destinations with the exception of the current layover hotels in Narita, Osaka, Hong Kong, Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland. * In Europe, water will be supplied only in Milan and Rome, Italy. * In Canada, no water will be supplied. During inspections of new hotels or re-inspection of current hotels outside of the continental United States, WHQBQ and the ALPA hotel committee will determine whether the hotel's water is safe for consumption. If not, the above bottled water provisions will apply. This includes all international layover hotels, whether they are current or new destinations. Five Flight Ops Employees Selected for United We Care Grants ------------------------------------------------------------ Five Flight Operations employees are among the 47 United employees who have been chosen as United We Care grant recipients. United We Care annually awards $50,000 in grants to charitable organizations that employee volunteers support. Any employee who contributes 40 hours or more of volunteer service in a year to a specific charity is eligible for the grants; due to the hundreds of entries received, grant recipients are selected by random drawing. United Plans Nonstop Service ORD-DEL ------------------------------------ United plans to launch nonstop daily service between Chicago and Delhi, India, by the start of the fourth quarter schedule change, which takes effect October 31. The new route will be among the longest operated by United or any other airline. United is able to offer the long flights linking North American nonstop with Delhi by using B747-400 aircraft with enhanced Phase Three Pratt and Whitney engines. Depending on the exact routing, United expects the new flights to take approximately 15 hours, covering more than 7,487 miles. Operation of the new flight is subject to certain Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) contractual approvals.
